Matt Holliday was glad he got another opportunity to bat with the bases loaded. So were the Colorado Rockies. Holliday hit a three-run double that highlighted a seventh-inning rally, sending the Rockies over the Cincinnati Reds 7-6 Saturday night. The Rockies trailed 5-3 when Holliday hit reliever Nick Masset’s first pitch off the right-field wall.

Livan Hernandez is three starts into his Rockies‘ career. It remains to be seen if he will get a chance to make a fourth.

Hernandez was knocked out in the Rockies‘ 8-5 loss to Cincinnati in the opening game of a three-game series Friday night, failing to survive the fourth inning for the second time in three starts. And in the third start—at Washington last weekend—Hernandez came away with a win, but it was a 13-6 victory in which he gave up six runs in six innings.

“He has pitched better in the past and we need him to pitch better to keep him in the rotation,” manager Clint Hurdle admitted. “We got him to eat innings, but the bullpen has worked quite a few innings (in Hernandez’s three starts).”
