Rockies right-hander Aaron Cook has learned to battle for victories.

“For somebody to get 20 wins is not a hot knife through butter every night,” said manager Clint Hurdle. “It’s about being able to shut the door and not letting an inning get away from you.”

Cook is halfway to 20 wins, but there’s more than half the season remaining, and he already has a personal-career-best 10 wins after Sunday’s 5-3 victory against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. He is just one win shy of the record for a Rockies pitcher before the All-Star break that Shawn Chacon set in 2003, and is in good position for a first-time All-Star selection, particularly with Hurdle managing the All-Star team.

Cook has allowed three or fewer runs in 12 of 15 starts, working at least six innings…

Rockies recall Bellorin with Torrealba suspended (AP)
The Colorado Rockies recalled catcher Edwin Bellorin from Triple-A Colorado Springs with Yorvit Torrealba serving the first of a two-game suspension Sunday. To make room on the roster, the Rockies optioned infielder Jonathan Herrera to the Triple-A club. Torrealba was suspended for a fight with the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ Matt Kemp on June 3.
